Essay on Context Wisdom and Antigone - 812 Words
Younger people have tended to look towards the elderly for wisdom and guidance since the beginning of recorded history and beyond. Students to teachers, children to parents, ordinary people to royalty and politicians ââ¬â generally those who have lived longer are not only believed, but expected to have garnered more knowledge in their longer lives. Abraham Lincoln once said, ââ¬Å"I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday. Also, in 2008 the Australian newspaper published an article detailing a study undertaken by the University of Aarhus in Denmark, which disproved the theory that the mind is at its peak in the late teens to mid-twenties. But all this is not to say that older people should not sometimes listenâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In this sense he fails, placing the laws of the state above the the great unwritten, unshakable traditions of the Gods. The values and criteria that Creon declared, he did not live up to. Citizens of a country, state or municipality elect political leaders to look after matters that a populace cannot by themselves. They are chosen because of their wisdom, and experience ââ¬â which usually comes with age. In city-states such as Thebes, the king would be have the final say ââ¬â complete power. However leaders in a democracy such as Australiaââ¬â¢s are surrounded by advisors, fellow politicians, the cabinet, and also the media who are ready to pounce on the slightest misgiving from any of them. At present, humanity has vast amounts of knowledge, but still very little wisdom. Buckminster Fuller called this time our final evolutionary exam. Is our species fit to survive? Can we develop the wisdom that will allow us to use our prodigious powers for our own good, and for that of many generations to come? The question then arises: What can we do to facilitate the development of wisdom? This is where the wisdom traditionsââ¬âthe spiritual traditions found throughout human cultureââ¬âhave their value. They are often seen as simply religions, but most of the great religions were seeded by wise people, people who had, in one way or another, awoken to the deeper truths of life and then sought to share their wisdom withShow MoreRelatedSophocles Antigone: 441-442bc1285 Words à |à 6 Pagesfor the gods, and the individual. Defense Information System Free Essays
Defense Information System (DIS) refers to a military global protected telecommunication network that simplifies the conveyance of information in a worldwide space. It is driven by transmission requirements, security demands, and geographical needs of the targeted end-user groups (Soomro 2016). Centrally, it is designed and managed to provide a long-haul information transfer. We will write a custom essay sample on Defense Information System or any similar topic only for you Order Now Furthermore, it is configured to provide a more sophisticated point ââ¬âto-point exchanged voice and data, teleconferencing video and image services. The DIS offers an integrated operational standard user services to satisfy the connectivity requirements. It is a digital-based defense strategy, that facilitates access to vital information across the globe through efficiently designed services such as information assurance, data services, multinational sharing of information and computer hosting. Moreover, DIS forms a key spectrum of military force operations which include defensive tactics, humanitarian efforts, offensive tactics as well as counterterrorism (Stahl, 2008). The ultimate goal of Defense information system is to help in achieving information governance by providing an effective infrastructure that may be of an advantage to the user in a combat. On the other hand, ethics refers to the prescribed code of conduct which are morally justified to administer the defense information system. Major ethical issues involved herein include privacy of information, Access to information, information accuracy and right to Intellectual property. Rapid growth in information technology through its improved dimensions for communication, computation, surveillance, retrieval and storage has sounded an alarm on privacy matters (Kizza, 2007). This is to say that, the unethical retrieval of data and access to information by unauthorized persons has greatly threatened the privacy of integrated security systems networks. Therefore, principles of ethics agitates for protection of privacy policies in relation to access of every sensitive information. Information accuracy is another ethical issue of concern. Upholding to an inaccurate information is misleading hence, it is a sole responsibility of the defense information system to be vigilant in pursuing the accuracy of its information. Imperatively, they should be certain that their information are based on facts as opposed to fiction (Stahl, 2008). The final ethical issue in defense information system is the right of intellectual property. This forms the most complex right faced by many in the contemporary society and the military is not an exemption. Substantial ethical concerns surrounding this stem from the information traits which makes it transferable. Any Defense Information system information is believed to be costly (Stahl, 2008). Furthermore, once produced, it is easier to copy and transfer to others. This makes it difficult to safeguard such information due to its intangible nature. It is worth noting that several institutions such as copyrights and patents have come in to managed and protect the rights of intellectual properties. The worldwide process is narrowing the space steadily as a result of what Kant describes as the public use of reason. Information Technology has greatly improved the effectiveness of the Defense Information System. It has enabled quick decision making through enabled rapid access to functionalities of creating, finding, using and sharing of the needed information. Quicker access to information by commanders from anywhere has also improved control and commanding. Additionally, it has also accelerated the speed of actions thus heightened the ability to coordinate all security issues across the globe. Other expeditious contributions of information technology on DIS includes improved cyber security, improved information security postures, as well as the defense effectiveness. However, the state territory is privately constrained by certain interests which differ from the individual reflection concerning the general subjects in a public domain. The greater disparity therefore emanates from the free public use of internet and other media due to their enormous private control. Since information is provided on demand in our cloud computing era, access to web-based tools by users via browsers has led to abstraction of customer details, which has raised questions of privacy and transparency. Ethics in relation to privacy of information for both individuals and organizations have been heavily affected negatively as a result of technology (Mingers, 2010). On this aspect, cyberspace has posted more security threats to nation-states in a context of increased dependency of worldwide networks and computer based interactions. Cyber-attacks, scams, image manipulations, infringements to computer systems and copying particular unauthorized software demonstrates the unethical practices facing the defense information system unit. It is therefore imperative for stiff ethical measures to be put in place to hasten security of the nation states with the advancements in technology. Contemporarily, no state agency can apply control to privacy to prevent the exposure of oneââ¬â¢s close secrets to others (Zizek, 2013). Regarding to the larger size of data, computers have failed to interpret and register multi-millions of data therefore making it difficult to detect suspicious message making state communication of information more unsafe. However, the defense information system has not been much helpful due to increased illegal malpractices according to Snowden and other whistleblowers. On this regard, denouncing of the public authorities and engaging in public use of information has greatly threatened the secrecy of individuals (Snowden, 2013). In conclusion, defense information system is a telecommunication network enabled system designed to simplify the transfer of information across the globe. It was majorly implemented by the military operational forces in United States which include defensive tactics, humanitarian efforts, offensive tactics as well as counterterrorism. The ultimate goal was to achieve control of information by providing an effective infrastructure for users in a combat and to improve on the general security across the globe. However, ethical issues in defense information system include Privacy of information, accuracy of information, access to information and the Property right. Despite of the drawbacks, DIS has remained focused to work with the new technological innovations and achieve their set missions. How to cite Defense Information System, Papers

Eight things super powerful women NEVER do
Eight things super powerful women NEVER do Everyone could benefit from a little more power and confidence in the workplace, but studies have shown that women in particular tend to be more hesitant about wielding the kinds of skills and behavior typically associated with leaders. If youââ¬â¢re looking for a way to boost your own presence at work and feel more in control of your career, here are some of the things that badass, powerful women never do. 1. They donââ¬â¢t downplay their achievementsMany women feel like talking openly about their achievements is arrogant or braggy. On the contrary, owning your success (and the steps you took to get there) is one of the most effective ways to advance your career. Being open about your success gives you concrete accomplishments you can point to in job interviews or raise negotiations.2. They donââ¬â¢t avoid confrontationOpenly disagreeing with someone (like a colleague or superior) may feel aggressive and out of line, but debate can be healthy- and someone else isnââ¬â¢t necessarily right simply because theyââ¬â¢re saying it in public. If you disagree, or have a differing perspective, donââ¬â¢t be shy about saying so (in a professionally appropriate way, of course).3. They donââ¬â¢t trash others to get aheadWhat was true in high school is still true in the workplace: smack talkers always get caught up in the drama in the end. Spreading rumors or denigrating others just so you might look better is not a good look for anyone. And if others know or think you canââ¬â¢t be trusted, you can expect the same treatment from others. Power comes from succeeding- not from stepping on other people.4. They donââ¬â¢t let criticism derail themAt some point, everyone comes up against some harsh criticism, a bad review, or a professional rejection of some sort. That doesnââ¬â¢t have to define you or your career. Powerful people take the criticism for what it is, learn what they can, make adjustments, and move on.5. They donââ¬â¢t let abusive behavior go uncheckedWhether itââ¬â¢s something as serious as harassment or simply not standing up to inappropriate behavior at work, calling it out doesnââ¬â¢t make you a snitch or a weak-looking victim. If you see or experience behavior that makes you uncomfortable, itââ¬â¢s on you to decide how to best approach it- whether thatââ¬â¢s reporting through a Human Resources process or voicing your discomfort with the person directly.6. They donââ¬â¢t internalize mistakes as personal failingsIf something goes wrong at work, it doesnââ¬â¢t necessarily mean that your personality or skills are defective. The power move is to acknowledge what happened (ââ¬Å"This was a choice I made, and this is why it was wrong.â⬠), correct the course, and move on. Work fails are not necessarily personal fails.7. They donââ¬â¢t fear failureFailing at something is demoralizing for everyone, no matter how confident you normally are. But truly powerful people have confidence in their skills and abilities, and understand that failure isnââ¬â¢t a game-ender. Instead, think of it as a game-changer. Itââ¬â¢s a chance to regroup, rethink, and be better.8. They donââ¬â¢t let self-doubt run the showEveryone has self-doubt sometimes. Every. Single. Person. The trick is not letting that derail your progress by hesitating and overthinking what your next steps are. Sometimes you have to overrule your doubting brain and go with your instincts. You have skills and experience that are guiding you- donââ¬â¢t let that get pushed out by that little voice saying, ââ¬Å"But what if Iââ¬â¢m wrong/not talented enough/not prepared?â⬠Confidence and power are within reach for all of us- all personalities, experience levels, and walks of life. At the root of all of it is knowing who you are, what you bring, and what you want to achieve. You know better than anyone what youâ â¬â¢re capable of achieving. Donââ¬â¢t be afraid to be bold!

Dividend Policy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Dividend Policy - Essay Example Various analysts have examined that the dividend policy could highly affect shareholdersââ¬â¢ wealth (Gul et al., 2012). The ability of a firm to distribute cash and increase the wealth of shareholders depends on the earnings capability of the firm and its capacity to raise fund from the external sources (Brealey, 2012). There are two ways of raising funds which are debt and equity (Kelly, 2012). Debts are the instrument where the holder gets a fixed payment along with interest (Denis and McKeon, 2012). On the other hand, the equity holders are the owner of the company to the extent of their holding (Hillier et al., 2011). However, as per the Modigiliani and Miller (M&M) model, the dividend policy of an organization has negligible or no effect on the shareholderââ¬â¢s wealth because the firm value is independent of its dividend policy. Moreover, in the accounting process, the dividend paid or received is calculated in cash flow which is very important for calculating the enterp rise value through discounted cash flow method (Brooks and Mukherjee, 2013). Policy Structure of Tesco PlcTesco Plc is one of the largest retailers globally. It is a British multinational, founded in 1919 and is headquartered in England. The payment of dividend has been consistent for 5 years. Nevertheless, in recent days, the wealth of shareholders has been weak as the profit generation of Tesco has been low, but it recovered in 2013-14 as the dividend paid is à £1,193m in comparison to à £1,186m in 2012-13.

Life in Prison Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Life in Prison - Essay Example The text provided me with a comprehensive view of this subject. b. There are different strategies being used by "Anonymous N. Inmate" and the other inmates in their adjustment to the prison system. Some attempt to become more involved in prison lives in a good way, occupying themselves with programs and activities that pass the time, like reading, drawing, getting a job, educating themselves, participating in religious activities and other activities. These are used as ways to escape the difficult reality of living within the prison compound. Others choose do behave differently; engaging in the economy of illegal goods and services, prison politics, joining a gang, etc. Both methods are, in a way, forms of escapism of the reality and keeping one engaged and busy. Another adaptation to life in prison is that which involves sex in prison. While some prisoners opt to only masturbate, others begin having sex with other men, while picturing women. The dire lack of any women and the possibility to have sex with someone of your own choice leads them to doing this. This is clearly an adaptation difficult to make, but statistics show that between 12 and up to 65 percent of prisoners do this. c. The inmates need for respect, hope and safety contributes to the correctional policy to a great extent. By knowing what the prisoner needs and aspires to, the correctional system can adapt its methods of conduct, its strategies of operation, its rewards and punishments to these needs of the prisoners. For example, prisoners who exhibit a good behavior could be granted with special freedoms or privileges, something which will enhance their sense of being respected and valued. These prisoners could be commended on their good behavior, encouraging them to keep it up. In the same way, while of course keeping a humane and reasonable approach, prisoners who misbehave should be discouraged from continuing this form of conduct. d. The facility in
